Awnyx – 6 months

On July 15th, 2013 my husband Colan and I were blessed with a beautiful baby girl weighing in at 4 pounds 10 ounces. It was love at first sight, and we named our precious gift, Awnyx. From day one, Awnyx was a unique baby. The first three months with Awnyx consisted of naps no longer than an hour, hours of nursing as she was not a very efficient nurser, hours of not being able to put her down as she would cry, sleepless nights as she had reflux and the only way she would sleep was upright on my chest, and utter exhaustion. As things started to improve I was already so use to nursing Awnyx constantly as she would often nurse every 40 mins to and hour (an hour and a half at most) we got into the peaceful habit of nursing to sleep. From about four months to just before Awnyx turned six months old nursing to sleep was working fine; however, than came that moment when Awnyx realized one minute I was there, the next I was not,and that was the end of nursing to sleep and her sleeping in general! The next few weeks we tried everything and every method we could think of to get her to sleep as a typical night consisted of her not falling asleep until 10:00-11:00 p.m., waking up 5-7 times during the night before she would awake for the day around 6:00-7:00 a.m. Needless to say, I was more than exhausted and I was finding myself at a loss for how to cope with no sleep and be a good mother. I then remembered a friend talking about her daughter and sleep training. I was so eager to get the information, tools, and support that I called for my free 15 minute consult that same day! I spoke to Amanda who provided more than enough information to help me be very confident in my decision to utilize their sleep services and work with one of their sleep consultants! They were very time conscious as I was appointed to a consultant that very day and had my scheduled phone assessment the next. I was so thankful for their time efficiency as I was at my wits end of what to do to help my daughter get the rest she so badly needed! I was very fortunate to get the chance to work with a very knowledgeable paediatric nurse, mother, and new friend, Lia Kuling. We started our journey to better sleep with a thorough conversation regarding Awnyx’s birth story, development, and present situation. Lia was eager to get to know us as parents, our parenting style, and Awnyx’s unique personality to help us come up with the perfect sleep plan that would fit not only Awnyx’s needs but our needs as parents. Lia was eager to answer every and any question I had and I felt like I had constant support from day one. Awnyx being the spirited child she is gave us a run for our money, and Lia was with us every step of the way going over and beyond to ensure we were supported and all sleeping well. I could not have done this without her and feel very fortunate to have been given the chance to work with such great consultant and company. I can now say Awnyx’s new sleep trend includes a good 12 hours of sleep a night and a well rested Mom eager to see her smiling face every morning!
