Liam – 4 months old

“Liam is our second child and I thought that I was prepared for all things to do with baby sleep. Our first child was never a great sleeper, taking several short catnaps throughout the day, taking forever to get him to go to sleep at night only to wake up a couple of times throughout the night wanting to be nursed or rocked back to sleep with his soother. I think I had read every sleep book on the market. So we eventually resorted to “cry it out” at 6 months because we were completely exhausted and none of the strategies from the books seemed to be helping. I never imagined that we would have the same sleep issues with our second child but that’s exactly what happened. At about 6 weeks Liam seemed to just wake up to the world and his long naps suddenly became short naps of 30-40 minutes about 4 times a day. At about 3 months he also started to wake every hour or two during the night. It got to the point that from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. the only way he’d sleep was if I held him in the rocking chair in his nursery. Needless to say I was exhausted. There were nights where I didn’t sleep at all. I knew we needed to do something because it was affecting my relationship with my husband, how I was parenting my 3 year old and my overall mood as I was suffering from postpartum anxiety. I didn’t think I could survive another 2 months until Liam was old enough at 6 months to “cry it out”.

I had mentioned Liam’s sleep issues to a coworker and she gave me Amanda’s name. I looked her up on Facebook and found out that I had a few other friends who had also used Amanda. I emailed with all of them and they all said “do it now”, “Amanda’s amazing” and “it will change your life”. So that’s where our journey with Amanda began. When Liam was 16 weeks old we started to work with Amanda.

Amanda is incredibly knowledgeable not to mention patient, as I had all kinds of questions and was so skeptical that this plan would work. Was Liam really going to fall asleep without being rocked and without his swaddle and soother? I also didn’t know how I would pull it off with a 3 year old in the house. I was anxious that it wouldn’t work quickly enough, if at all. I was worried she was going to tell me to use the same strategies I had already tried from my mountain of sleep books. Interestingly enough, Amanda did have me use some of the strategies that I thought I had already tried but it was like she put all the puzzle pieces together for us. What was even more amazing about this program was that Amanda took all the guesswork out of it for us. She gave me confidence and I never had to second guess myself or wonder if what we were doing was working. Amanda was always there to support us, answer any questions or concerns that came up along the way and help us tweak the plan.

Liam has been sleeping through the night since day 2 of the program. We hit a bit of a bump in the road when he learned to roll and was waking in the middle of the night to practice, but the amazing thing was that Liam now had the skills to fall asleep on his own. So after his practice session was over he was able to put himself back to sleep! Now at 20 weeks Liam continues to sleep 12 hours through the night. Liam naps 3 times a day. The morning and afternoon naps most often range from 1-2 hours and he takes a shorter nap just before supper. He is asleep each night by 7:00 giving me time to spend with my 3 year old and my husband. I no longer dread nap times and I look forward to our bedtime routine each night. Liam is a much happier baby as well. He is just so much more content now that he is well rested, and now that I am well rested, I can actually enjoy my sweet little boy!”
